    About This Juice

This homemade mango juice is a naturally sweet fresh fruit drink, perfect to beat the heat on a hot day when summer is in full bloom. The recipe is super simple, its quick and easy to make, and takes only 10 minutes of your active time.

Mangoes being our absolute favorite, I love to make its fresh juice on repeat, when they are plenty in season. As mango is soft, pulpy, and a high fiber fruit, it cannot be juiced using a juicer; rather, it is juiced using a blender, food processor or a handheld blender!

This refreshing mango juice drink is sweet, slightly tart and thicker than most fruit juices. You can adjust the consistency of the juice and also opt to add sweetener of your choice if you like a sweeter mango nectar.

Unlike those store-bought juices, this homemade juice ( just like my Strawberry Juice, Pomegranate Juice and Watermelon Juice) is free from all kinds of added preservatives and sugar. With 100% natural fruit flavor, this bright and fresh mango nectar juice is healthy, tasty and perfect for kids of all ages.

A sip of real mango fruit juice on a warm day is more like a treat you need to boost your energy and quench your thirst, its that GOOD! And, I can guarantee you, there is nothing better than a glass of fresh mango juice made at home.

Whether you stock them up by buying it from a local market or grab a bunch of mangoes from grocery store, making a juice or pulping and freezing them to enjoy all year round is a perfect way to use them up!

    Mango Juice Benefits

Mangoes are delicious and nutritious fruits laden with a lot of health benefits. Due to the nutrient-rich hallmarks, mangoes are evidently good to include in your diet as is or in any form (juice, salad, smoothie, oatmeal, thick Indian pulp with fried puris, yogurt lassi, salsa, fruit salad, grills and much more) . Let's go through some of them below:

    • Low in Calories: Mangoes are low in calories with only 100 calories per cup fresh fruit (roughly around 165 grams).
    • Improves Digestive Health: As they are high in dietary fiber, they may aid proper digestion and cleansing of the body.
    • Immune Boosting Nutrients: They are rich source of vitamins A, B vitamins, vitamin C, E and K and minerals like potassium, magnesium, folate, and more.
    • Powerful Antioxidants: These are packed with plant compounds - polyphenols. They act as powerful antioxidants which are important to protect your cells against free radicals.
    • Supports Heart Health: Super antioxidant mangiferin may help in lowering blood cholesterols levels, and protects heart cells against inflammation.
    • Anticancer effects: Polyphenols present in mango may help to fight certain types of cancers including lungs, colon, bones and more.

    How To Make Mango Juice

Prepping Mangoes: Wash and soak the mangoes for 1-2 hours in a large bowl filled with water. NOTE: Soaking them reduces their heating properties, I prefer the follow this step always. That said, this is an optional step, so feel free to skip it, if you wish.

Next, dry them using clean kitchen towel and peel the skin using a sharp knife or a peeler.

Dice the mangoes, scrape all the flesh from ( both sides of the stone)the fruit and discard the stone.

    Make the Juice:

Transfer the diced mangoes to a blender along with few ice-cubes and water. NOTE: You may add sugar or your choice of sweetener if you like. Personally, I prefer my mango fruit juice without added sugar or sweetener, so I have skipped it.

    Blend until smooth.

NOTE: You can chill the juice in the refrigerator for an hour or two.

    FAQs

What is the difference between mango nectar and juice?

There is a slight difference between mango juice and nectar. Pure juice is basically 100% Mango fruit with water. Whereas in mango nectar, fruit is blended using choice of sweetener and water. That said, If you go through most juice recipes with mango on the internet, you will find that they contain all the three ingredients - fruit, sweetener and water! As my recipe for this mango juice is adaptable (with or without sugar), I have taken the liberty to use both the terms here - juice as well the nectar!

Can I use mango pulp to make this juice?

If mangoes aren't in season or you are unable to find high quality fruit, you can use a very good quality Indian mango pulp to make this juice. I would highly recommend you to pick canned Kesar or Alphonso mango pulp from the Asian stores. You can also make alphonso mango pulp at home to make this juice throughout the year.

Can I use frozen mango for this juice recipe?

Yes, in a pinch you can choose to use frozen mangoes. Ensure they are high quality and pack mentions the mango variety used.

    Expert Tips

    • Mangoes: Use sweet and ripe mangoes that have a nice juicy pulp; avoid using sour/unripe and fibrous mangoes for this juice recipe.
    • Soaking: To reduce the heating properties of mangoes, I would recommend you to soak them in water in a large bowl for an hour or two before using.
    • Sweeteners: Your mangoes aren't sweet enough? Feel free to add sweetener of choice like white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, agave, a simple syrup or even honey for a sweeter nectar.
    • Juice Consistency: The addition of water depends on the consistency of juice you need, so, add or reduce the amount as you like.
    • Chilled Juice: Either refrigerate the mango fruit before blending, or add few ice cubes while blending, or chill the juice for 1-2 hours before serving.
    • Straining: For smoother juice, you have a freedom to strain it using a fine mesh- strainer or a sieve to remove fibre if any. Using a good high speed blender helps skipping the straining process.

    Optional Add-ins and Variations

Feel free to add the below mentioned fruits, juices or flavorings to this pure mango juice:

    • A little squeeze of lime or lemon juice just before serving adds freshness and enhances the flavor even further.
    • Feel free to add orange juice, carrot juice, cranberry juice, or strawberry juice, pineapple juice or tender coconut water instead of water.
    • You can consider adding kiwis, passion fruit, and even peach along with mangoes.
    • Feel free to add a pinch of spices like ground cardamom, saffron, ground ginger and even a small amount of fresh ginger (while blending the mangoes) to the juice. Adding few drops of rosewater provides floral note to the juice making it more tasty and fresh.
    • Serving mango juice with a tablespoon of chia seeds or soaked basil seeds (sabja seeds) for the added fiber is great idea.

    Storage

Store: This refreshing Mango fruit juice tastes best enjoyed fresh. That said, store the leftover (which we never have in our home 🙂 ) into a clean airtight bottle or a jar for up to 1 day.
