Ingredients you'll need

- Green Beans: I used fresh french green beans (called haricot verts), which are my all-time favorite green bean because they’re at their best when they’re just slightly cooked.
- Olive Oil: This helps the seasoning coat evenly while encouraging those beautifully roasted edges during cooking.
- Garlic Powder: Adds depth of flavor to the beans. You don’t want to add fresh garlic as it will burn in the air fryer.
- Italian Seasoning: Provides a warm, herby under tone that enhances the comforting feel of the dish, yet doesn’t diminish the fresh taste and the deep flavor of the cooked beans.
- Lemon Zest: I'm always so pleased with how the lemon zest counter acts something as rich as parmesan cheese, and thats what you can expect from lemon zest.
- Salt and Black Pepper: This is essential and always the enhancer of choice. In this recipe, the salt draws out the natural sweetness of the beans and the black pepper provides a warm, underlying tone.
- Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated onto the beans while cooking, creating salty, nutty flavor, developing toasted golden spots throughout the green beans.

Expert Tips
- I use french beans as they are delicate and nice and tender when cooked. Regular string beans would work, but you just have to cook them a minute or two longer, especially if they are a bit thicker.
- It’s crucial that these beans be washed, dried, and seasoned before the roasting step. Any residual moisture in the beans will turn to steam while roasting, interfering with the delicate process of forming a crusty exterior.
- If you are short of time, pre-packed trimmed beans make a good alternative.
- Make sure to never overcrowd the basket by placing the beans on top of each other they will steam instead of roast. For larger quantities cook in batches to achieve the pristine outcome.
- Serve them straight away. Like most roasted vegetables, these are at their most delicious straight from the basket, with their crunchy edges and piping hot parmesan still intact.
Air Fryer Green Beans Recipe FAQs
Yes, absolutely. There’s no need to thaw them first. Just work quickly when adding oil and parmesan since frozen beans can cause the oil to harden slightly. Add an extra 2–3 minutes of cooking time as needed.
I definitely recommend trimming the tough stem ends before cooking. It improves both texture and presentation.
No soaking required. Just wash them thoroughly and pat completely dry before seasoning.
If you don’t have an air fryer, the oven works wonderfully too.
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and spread the seasoned beans into a single layer. Roast at 425°F without disturbing them during cooking.
For thinner haricot verts, roast for 12–14 minutes. Traditional green beans usually need about 14–16 minutes depending on thickness.
You’ll still get beautifully blistered edges and tender centers with plenty of roasted flavor.
Usually this happens because the basket was overcrowded or the beans were still wet before cooking. Keeping them dry and arranged in a single layer makes a huge difference.
Serving Ideas
These beans go with just about any kind of cuisine and are therefore an easy side dish to serve up.
Serve alongside chicken, or my Air Fryer Salmon, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Baked Turkey Meatballs in Lemon Butter Sauce for a simple but balanced dinner. Also pairs well with pasta dishes of all kinds as the crispy vegetable yields nice contrast to chewy pasta and creamy sauces.
For holiday meals or when you’re having guests over, serve these bite-sized treats on a large platter and sprinkle with plenty of parmesan. So easy and elegant.
Storing, freezing and reheating cooked green beans
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
To freeze, let the beans cool completely before transferring them into freezer-safe bags or airtight containers.
For reheating, pop them back into the air fryer for 2–3 minutes until warmed through and crisp again. This helps revive the texture far better than microwaving.
