Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh French green beans haricot verts/string beans - washed & ends trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 small lemon zest
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ¼-½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer at 400℉. Pat dry the washed beans well.
  • In a large bowl, toss the fresh green beans with 1 tablespoon olive oil.
  • Add 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1 small lemon zest, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼-½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper and toss until beans are well-coated in the seasonings.
  • Now, add ½ cup grated parmesan cheese and give a toss again until there is cheese over your seasoned beans.
  • Place the beans in the air fryer basket mostly in a single layer. Do not overcrowd, you may need work in two batches. Cook 7-9 minutes shaking the basket once halfway through, until the beans are just tender and crisp. My French beans were cooked perfect at 7 minutes mark.
  • Transfer to a serving platter, squeeze lemon juice on top and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. I use haricot beans as they are delicate and nice and tender when cooked. Regular string beans would work, you just have to cook them a minute or two longer, especially if they are a bit thicker.
  2. Wash and pat dry beans very well before seasoning. Any residual moisture in the beans will turn to steam while roasting, interfering with the delicate process of forming a crusty exterior
  3. Pre-packed trimmed beans make a good alternative, when short of time.
  4. Never overcrowd the basket by placing the beans on top of each other they will steam instead of roast. For larger quantities cook in batches to achieve the perfect crunch.
