Ingredients you'll need
Pineapple: This tangy fruit lends itself perfectly to grilling. It's tough enough to hold up to the heat, and tangy enough to taste even better as it caramelizes and sweetens. All you'll need to do is peel and cut your fruit to prepare it for this recipe.
For Glaze: This is a super simple glaze, and you'll probably have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already! All you need is sugar (or brown sugar), lemon juice (or lime juice), cayenne pepper, cinnamon, sea salt, and melted butter. All of these ingredients blend together to create a slightly spicy and sweet glaze for your grilled pineapple.
How to grill pineapple slices?
Step 1: In a small bowl, add 4 tablespoons melted butter, 4 tablespoons raw sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, ⅛ teaspoon sea salt and mix well.
Step 2: Mix everything well.
Step 3: Pour the glaze over your pineapple slices and flip them over to ensure they’re coated well. Let the pineapple marinate in the glaze for 15 minutes.
Step 4: Heat your grill pan (or outdoor grill) to medium heat and coat it with a little bit of oil or cooking spray.
Grill the pineapple slices for 4-5 minutes on each side, basting once more with the remaining glaze.
You’ll know it’s done when it’s golden and caramelized on both sides.
Step 5: Remove the pineapple from the grill and serve! Enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Choose a good pineapple! When ripe, it'll be a yellow-green color and will have a little give when you squeeze it.
- Make sure you use medium heat. If you grill the pineapple at too high a temperature, it’ll burn the pineapple on the outside and leave the inside uncooked.
- With that said, when you’re cooking it on medium heat, you can cook it to your desired doneness! I like to cook 4-5 minutes on each side, but you might like to go for 6-8 minutes.
FAQs
Fresh pineapple is definitely the best, but if it's not in season, you can use canned pineapple that comes in juice.
The key is to use a sharp knife. Start by chopping off the top, then peeling the hard skin off the inner fruit. Finally, slice the pineapple from top to bottom.
