Why I love this pineapple recipe?

Have you ever felt the urge to flavor your grilled pineapple with cinnamon and brown sugar? No? Well, after reading this recipe, you sure will! This glazed pineapple recipe is incredibly easy and simple to make, and it tastes delicious!

It's versatile too! Enjoy it any time of the day, with nearly any sort of meal. This is honestly one of my favorite ways to eat fruit, and you can trust me, because I've been making this for years. Your pineapple will come out sweet, tart, a little spicy, and caramelized with buttery goodness.

All you have to do is whip together the simple glaze and throw your fruit on the grill. The heat caramelizes the natural sugars in the pineapple and makes it even sweeter than you thought possible. This recipe is sure to be a family favorite!

Slice it up for breakfast, serve it on a salad, or eat it alongside your favorite chicken dish for a sweet and savory delight. Or, if you're looking for a yummy dessert, you could enjoy it like my family often does... with vanilla ice cream!

    Ingredients you'll need

pineapple slices, butter, cinnamon, lemon juice, sugar, cayenne pepper, and sea salt

Pineapple: This tangy fruit lends itself perfectly to grilling. It's tough enough to hold up to the heat, and tangy enough to taste even better as it caramelizes and sweetens. All you'll need to do is peel and cut your fruit to prepare it for this recipe.

For Glaze: This is a super simple glaze, and you'll probably have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already! All you need is sugar (or brown sugar), lemon juice (or lime juice), cayenne pepper, cinnamon, sea salt, and melted butter. All of these ingredients blend together to create a slightly spicy and sweet glaze for your grilled pineapple.

    How to grill pineapple slices?

Step 1: In a small bowl, add 4 tablespoons melted butter, 4 tablespoons raw sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, ⅛ teaspoon sea salt and mix well.

Glaze ingredients in a small glass bowl.

    Step 2: Mix everything well.

Glaze ingredients mixed together with a spoon.

Step 3: Pour the glaze over your pineapple slices and flip them over to ensure they’re coated well. Let the pineapple marinate in the glaze for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Heat your grill pan (or outdoor grill) to medium heat and coat it with a little bit of oil or cooking spray.

Grill the pineapple slices for 4-5 minutes on each side, basting once more with the remaining glaze.

You’ll know it’s done when it’s golden and caramelized on both sides.

Step 5: Remove the pineapple from the grill and serve! Enjoy!

    Expert Tips

    • Choose a good pineapple! When ripe, it'll be a yellow-green color and will have a little give when you squeeze it.
    • Make sure you use medium heat. If you grill the pineapple at too high a temperature, it’ll burn the pineapple on the outside and leave the inside uncooked.
    • With that said, when you’re cooking it on medium heat, you can cook it to your desired doneness! I like to cook 4-5 minutes on each side, but you might like to go for 6-8 minutes.

    FAQs

Can I use canned pineapple to grill instead of fresh?

Fresh pineapple is definitely the best, but if it's not in season, you can use canned pineapple that comes in juice.

How to cut pineapple for grilling?

The key is to use a sharp knife. Start by chopping off the top, then peeling the hard skin off the inner fruit. Finally, slice the pineapple from top to bottom.

    Serving Suggestion

This is one of those recipes that is wildly versatile! You can enjoy it in so many different ways, just look…

    • Serve this grilled fruit up with a BBQ! It's great as a side, on a burger, in a sandwich, or in a salad.
    • Want to use it as an appetizer? Enjoy it pre-meal as-is, or chop it up and add it to a salsa.
    • Switching gears to breakfast, you can add your grilled pineapple to yogurt, parfait, pancakes, or waffles.
    • Like I mentioned above, it's great to pair a sweet treat like this with a savory protein! Serve it with chicken, shrimp, or steak.
    • Grilled fruit is also yummy with Tex-Mex meals, like fajitas and tacos!
    • And finally, enjoy it as a dessert! It's the perfect way to end the day, especially with ice cream.

    Storage

Your leftovers will last up to 3 days in airtight container stored in the refrigerator. Eat it cold, or reheat it on the stovetop or the grill until it’s warmed through.
