Ayran - Turkish Yogurt Drink Recipe

Cool, creamy and salty ayran drink is delicious to beat the heat. This classic Turkish yogurt drink recipe includes just 3 simple ingredients, and is easy to whisk up on a summer day in only 2 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk yogurt full-fat, unsweetened plain
  • cup cold water I use ice cold water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt or as you like
  • ½ teaspoon dried mint optional - plus for garnish
  • ice cubes for serving
  • fresh mint for serving

Instructions

  • To begin with, place the 1 cup whole milk yogurt in a deep bowl or wide mouth pitcher (jug).
  • Whisk the yogurt until smooth and no lumps.
  • Now add 1¼ cup cold water, s¼ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon dried mint (if using) and whisk until well combined and frothy. Taste and adjust the salt and consistency, if desired.
  • Refrigerate ayran until ready to serve.
  • Pour ayran in serving glasses with ice cubes, garnish with fresh mint and sprinkle some dried mint (optional) and serve immediately.
