Ingredients

  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • 2 inches Ginger cleaned, unpeeled and sliced or grated
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice or as needed
  • 1-2 tablespoons Honey or to taste
  • Lemon Slices for serving
  • Fresh Mint Leaves for serving
  • Cinnamon Stick for serving - optional

Instructions

  • Bring water to a boil in pan /pot or kettle.
  • Add sliced or grated ginger, reduce the heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes. You can simmer it for extra 5 minutes for stronger ginger flavor.
  • Switch off the heat, cover the pot and allow it to steep for another 4-5 minutes (optional step).
  • Carefully, pour the ginger tea into serving cups using a strainer.
  • Add lemon juice, honey (or maple syrup / sugar) to sweeten the tea, and stir (I used cinnamon stick). Garnish with lemon slice and fresh mint, serve!

Notes

  • For a stronger flavor, hand grate fresh ginger instead of peeling and slicing.
  • I prefer to leave the peel on the ginger. This keeps the most flavor and nutritional benefits. However, feel free to peel the ginger before grating or slicing, if you like!
  • The longer the tea steeps, the stronger the taste will be. At a minimum the tea steeps for 5 minutes, but it can steep for up to 15 minutes total for maximum flavor and health benefits.
  • Lemon honey ginger tea for cold and cough is always best when fresh. However, you can store the tea for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. However, the lemon and honey should be added fresh, when the liquid is hot and ready to serve.
